Provenza Hardwood in Fair Oaks Home

This was a fabulous project to work on with Ken Dyer Construction and designer Kimberly Dressell from Innovations. Simas Floor and Design installed the hardwood, carpet and Hunter Douglas window coverings in this home. This home has a Restoration Hardware feel to it. I'll have professional photos with all the new furniture at a later date, but for now, here are the photos of some of the finishes in the house. Kimberly selected high quality products that all married well together. It was truly a pleasure working with Kimberly and watching her select products, colors and textures. The hardwood in this home is Provenza Old World oil rubbed flooring. Carpet selections are from Kane Carpet, Tuftex, and Hibernia Woolen Mills. The tile is also something to enjoy in this home. Hope you like looking at these photos!
View from the top of the front stair case and hallway. The double staircase was designed to match the floor perfectly. The hardwood entry has a unique design that you can see it you look at little closer.
Tuftex pattern carpet was a perfect selection for the family room. The pattern and color are subtle and sophisticated and the pad provides a soft place for the children to play on the floor and relax.
The library is at the front of the house with lots of natural light. The Provenza hardwood floor is gorgeous in the natural light.
This is the upstairs media room. The carpet is 100% virgin wool and is soft and comfortable.
View of the bar from the media room and a closer look at the Hibernia wool carpet.

Lovely bedroom carpet by Kane Carpet. This room is princess perfect.
This is a simple 3"x6" subway matte tile with a dark grout. The look is modern and simple.
Another view of the 3"x6" matte subway tile with dark grout installed in the shower. Those towel hooks installed directly into the tile are fabulously functional!
Another great use of the 3"x6" matte subway tile. This time grouted with a white grout with a picture frame created with marble pencil liner.

St Jude Giveaway Home by De Young Properties

Simas Floor and Design Company works with De Young Properties in Fresno. This is the 7th year that De Young Properties has built the St. Jude Dream Home and it's the 4th year Simas has been part of their team. Shaw Floors donates the flooring materials and Simas installs the carpet and hardwood. Simas also donates the window blinds and the labor to install it. Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit the St. Jude Dream Home and be interviewed regarding our participation in the building of the Dream Home. Kim Stephens from KMPH Fox News is a pro and so was cameraman Ryan Hudgins who also sponsors football camps for Fresno youth and was named one of Fresno's 40 under 40 Class by the Fresno Business journal. Thanks Kim and Ryan for making it a fun experience! The De Young's did a great job again this year in decorating the home and truly making it a Dream Home! The Shaw hardwood and carpet are lovely colors that anyone would enjoy coming home to. Have a look and see for yourself!

Hardwood 101 with Simas Floor and Design Company

¾” Solid Hardwood
Solid hardwood flooring is available in both pre-finished and unfinished hardwood species. The pre-finished hardwood flooring has a factory finish that cannot be duplicated by a sand-in-place application. However, the factory finish cannot duplicate the smooth edges of a floor finished at the job site. You’ll need to weigh the pros and cons based on what’s important to you. Solid hardwood is usually installed over a plywood raised foundation and using a nail/staple down installation method.

Engineered Hardwood
Engineered Hardwood has become very popular and commonly used. It’s the best application for a home that’s built on a concrete slab. Engineered hardwood is made of wood layers glued together. The multiple layers help to stabilize the hardwood from cupping and bowing. The thickness of the top layer will vary from a peeled 1mm to a sawn 4mm product. There are many selections of colors, styles, board widths and finishes in the engineered hardwood category. Engineered hardwood performs best with a direct glue installation method. It can also be floated or nailed.

Laminate
Laminate is not a hardwood. Laminate is a 4-layer product made up of a moisture barrier backing, high density core board, photographic image of wood, and a top layer that protects the floor from stains and fading. These 4 layers are heated up to 400 degrees and pressurized up to 600 pounds psi in manufacturing. Laminate is a floating floor that clicks together over pad and is recommended for active families with children and/or pets since the surface doesn’t scratch or dent as easily as hardwood.

Luxury Vinyl Plank
The latest in the hardwood floor look is LVP, which is also not a hardwood. This product is excellent for active families or commercial settings and can be either floated or glued directly to the floor. Up until recently, LVP was mostly installed in commercial buildings. It is now a considered a great option for homeowners with active households and families.

Marmoleum Forbo Flooring at Simas Floor and Design!

There are so many wonderful looking residential rooms on the Marmoleum website! These are some of my favorites. Forbo Marmoleum flooring is used mostly in commercial settings such as hospitals, office buildings, healthcare facilities, schools and universities. It's anti-microbial surface, naturally green qualities, environmentally responsible manufacturing as well as it's hard surface and large array of colors and designs make it a perfect choice for these commercial settings. HOWEVER, it's also an excellent choice for residential homes for the very same reasons! Our showroom is in close proximity to the downtown Sacramento area where many of the homes were built in the early to mid-century period.  The colors and designs are a perfect fit for these mid-century homes, especially when the owners want to refurbish and remodel their home to the original, but updated look. Simas is now the only flooring company in the Sacramento area with the new beautiful display of Forbo Marmoleum featuring all the latest colors and designs from the Marmoleum design team. Simas also offer expert installation of the Marmoleum product as well as design help and free estimates.
